This Blackberry Mint Julep is made with a blackberry simple syrup, fresh blackberries, lemon juice, mint and Maker’s Mark® whisky for a refreshing beverage suitable for a hot summer day or The Big Race in May.
Blackberry Simple Syrup
1 cup water
1 cup sugar
1 cup blackberries
Blackberry Mint Julep
2 parts Maker’s Mark® whisky
1/2 part blackberry simple syrup
1/2 part lemon juice, fresh squeezed
6 fresh mint leaves
ice (preferably crushed)
Make your blackberry simple syrup on the stovetop by bringing 1 cup water, 1 cup sugar and 1 cup blackberries to a low simmer for 3 minutes. Smash the blackberries. Let cool for 15 minutes and strain.
Add the 2 parts Maker’s Mark® whisky, 1/2 part blackberry simple syrup, 1/2 part lemon juice, 6 mint leaves, and 3 blackberries in a glass.
Muddle the mint and blackberries to infuse the flavors into your beverage.
