Iced Chocolate Macchiato is a simple drink made with almond milk, dark chocolate sauce and espresso poured over ice.
This past year, the husband and myself have really been focused on paying off debt and cutting back on all those little charges that add up quickly. Grabbing a coffee from Starbucks or Dunkin was one of those little charges adding up every month so we decided to just stop and make coffee at home. My husband can drink a cup of black coffee every morning without complaints but I get bored of drinking the same thing every single day so I HAVE to switch it up.
I was stuck on these Caramel Vanilla Iced Coffees for a long while which you may also enjoy but sometimes, you just need some chocolate! Chocolate serves as a great mood booster in the AM and I know I’m not the only one that feels that way. Calling in the Iced Chocolate Macchiato.
Iced Chocolate Macchiato
Iced Chocolate Macchiato is smooth and super chocolatey. I would compare it to a chocolate milk but with lots of caffeine. We could all use a little more energy so bring it on.
Instructions
Start by drizzling a little bit of dark chocolate sauce into a glass. Fill with ice.
Next, add about 6 ounces of almond to glass leaving enough space at the top to pour in the coffee. I recommend vanilla almond milk because it adds a little extra flavor to the drink. However, any milk can be used. If you prefer 2% or something different, go with your usual.
Then, top the glass with the coffee. Stir and drink up. More on making instant coffee espresso in the recipe card below.
Chocolate
Make sure to use chocolate sauce and not chocolate syrup. Yes, there is a difference and you will be able to taste that difference. I personally love the dark chocolate sauce because that chocolatey flavor is really present but a regular chocolate sauce will work or even a white chocolate.
Coffee
Since my espresso machine broke, I have been using instant coffee to create these types of recipes. Honestly, I don’t even miss my machine. It works fine for my taste. If you do have a espresso machine, you may certainly create the espresso that way. Note, you will want two shots per drink. If not, just follow the recipe instructions to make espresso with instant coffee like I have done.

- 2 teaspoons Cafe Bustelo instant coffee
- 1/4 cup water
- 1 Tablespoon dark chocolate sauce
- 6 ounces vanilla almond milk
Instructions
- Drizzle half the chocolate sauce into bottom of a glass.

- Add almond milk. Make sure there is enough space at the top to pour in the coffee.
- In a separate microwavable safe glass, add remaining chocolate sauce, 2 teaspoons instant coffee and 1/4 cup water. Heat up in microwave for 20 seconds just so the water gets hot enough that the instant coffee dissolves. Stir well.
- Pour the coffee mix over the almond milk.
- Serve.
Notes
- If using another instant coffee brand, amount may differ. Add 2 servings worth of whatever instant coffee mix you have with the 1/4 cup of water.

How much money could you save this year by creating coffee recipes at home instead of going to a coffeehouse?
Can I just say I LOVE the way you’ve presented the coffee in that picture? It looks amazing!

Right. Give me all the chocolate!
It sounds so yummy, I’ve been using Skinny Syrups since I’m dieting so I need to check if they have a chocolate one (they have so many I’m sure they will)
Normally syrups aren’t great but I haven’t tried the SKinny Syrups. Would use a sauce but I do think there are ones with less sugar and you could always cut back on the amount of sauce used!
