Mocha Bombs

February 24, 2022 by Amber 5 Comments

Mocha Bombs are a fun and delicious way to enjoy a mocha made with instant espresso, hot cocoa powder and mini chocolate chips nestled into a sphere of dark chocolate that bursts open and melts when warm milk is poured over top.

Hot Chocolate Bombs have been all the rage the past year or so! And why not? They are just a fun way to enjoy a beverage. Honestly, I would file it more under dessert with the richness and chocolate and marshmallows and sprinkles and whatever else you like to add. I love them, my kids love them and it is a cool little deal to put together and interactive to drink as you watch the sphere burst open. I wanted to make a hot cocoa bomb today but for adults…. so caffeinated hot cocoa bomb, here I come.

You may enjoy these family friendly St Patricks Day Hot Chocolate Bombs!

Mocha Bombs

Mocha Bombs are a nice morning treat. You get a creamy, decadent, oh-so-chocolaty cup of coffee with each mocha bomb. These little bombs are really rich and enjoyable to drink and of course, a little whipped cream on top completes this tasty mocha.

Process

Start with the Half Sphere Chocolate Molds. The medium-sized, 2 1/2 inch diameter mold are the perfect size. Melt the Chocolate Wafers in 30 second intervals, stirring between until completely melted. Pour the melted chocolate in even portions into each sphere mold. Use the back of a spoon to manipulated the melted chocolate up the sides. Place the molds in the freezer for 20 minutes to set up before continuing to next step.

Carefully release the chocolate from each mold leaving you with 12 half spheres. Set up a working station with your spheres, espresso, hot cocoa powder, mini chocolate chips and a hot plate. For your hot plate, microwave a ceramic plate for a minute or until it almost too hot to touch. Be careful!

Tip

Save a few chocolate wafers just in case you need to fix a little break when removing spheres from the molds.

Assemble

Work quickly to assemble each mold into a nice round sphere with all the delicious goodies inside.

  1. Place a half sphere onto the hot plate to even out the edge.
  2. Add 1 Tablespoon hot cocoa mix, 1 teaspoon espresso and  1 Tablespoon mini chocolate chips inside the half sphere.
  3. Grab another half sphere and place it on the hot plate until it is even and slightly melty. Put the two half spheres together.
  4. Repeat until all 6 spheres are complete.

Tip

A little bit of chocolate will melt off onto the hot plate. If needed, you can dip your finger in this chocolate and place it where needed to get a better seal when creating the spheres.

    4. Repeat until all 6 spheres are complete.
