This recipe comes from mom and has a funny back story as it is the first meal she made for my dad when they were teenagers many, many years ago. I’m just going to let you all know now – this isn’t really “first date” food. My dad was terrified to eat this – we can be honest that it doesn’t look like a fancy, beautiful meal but it does taste delicious. I promise. Over 30 years later, my mom still makes this casserole so it is a keeper.
Moms Tater 4-Ingredient Tot Casserole
Let’s get to cooking. This casserole is so easy to make. I like to start with a ground beef with 15 % fat content. I have tried leaner ground beef but it has a tendency to get too dry while cooking and any meat with higher fat content, soaks everything so I like that 15% for this particular dish. Just press the meat into the bottom of a medium sized casserole dish, sprinkle some pepper and cover with a layer of frozen tater tots.
Next, mix up the condensed soups and pour over top of tater tots and sprinkle a little more pepper. Cover and bake for 30 minutes and uncover to finish off cooking. Dinner time doesn’t get much easier than that!

Moms 4-Ingredient Tater Tot Casserole is made with ground beef, condensed soups and tater tots for a really simple, family-friendly recipe that is both comforting and delicious.
- 1.5-2 pounds ground beef (85/15)
- 1 pound tater tots, frozen
- 1 can cream of mushroom condensed soup
- 1 can cream of chicken condensed soup
- pepper
- parsley garnish (optional)
- Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
- In a medium casserole dish (I use 33 x 25), press the ground beef into bottom.
- Pepper the top.
- Wash hands well after handling meat or use gloves.
- Line a layer of tater tots over top.
- In a small bowl, stir the cream of chicken and cream of mushroom together and pour over top of tater tots.
- Pepper the top.
- Cover and bake for 30 minutes.
- Remove cover and bake another 15 minutes.
- Serve.
you don’t have to brown hamburger meat first?
Not for this dish.

This is my daughter’s favorite dish! She loves it! It is a quick and easy meal for a work night too. We mix up the cheeses and soups to switch it up. We love broccoli cheese soup and cheddar cheese. Yummo!
