A Roy Rogers Drink is a simple, kid-friendly mocktail made with cola and grenadine topped with maraschino cherries. You can also turn this childhood favorite into an adult beverage with the addition of bourbon.
What is a Roy Rogers?
Roy Rogers was a singer and actor in the 1900’s who was known for Western movie roles. Roy Rogers has a restaurant chain named after him, along with this mocktail. When I was a child, it would be a treat to order a soda when we went out to eat. I always loved a Shirley Temple made of grenadine and ginger ale and my brother always ordered a Roy Rogers as a “boy” version made with cola. Both are a fun treat that taste great for kids or adults.
Roy Rogers Drink
Roy Rogers Drink is a carbonated beverage with a touch of vanilla that coca-cola provides with an added tartness and extra sweetness from the grenadine. Garnish with maraschino cherries for an added treat that are fun to eat.
What is Grenadine?
Grenadine is a non-alcoholic simple syrup made with pomegranate juice (not cherries like many assume) and sugar. It is tart and sweet making it a great mixer for cocktails to both add great flavor and also add a nice touch of color.
Spike It
Turn this mocktail into a delicious adult cocktail by adding a shot of liquor. I love bourbon with cola so that is my go-to with this drink. However, you can swap a shot of bourbon with your liquor of choice. Vodka, whiskey… whatever you would like.

I always thought grenadine was cherries! This is such a classic and yummy drink.
So did my husband. Probably because drinks with grenadine seem to always have a cherry on top!
Love this drink! It’s a classic way to dress up a plain soda — and it’s definitely a drink any kid would love to have.
The kids get excited with the grenadine and cherries for sure.
This sounds like an amazing drink! Definitely have to try it out sometime!

I would like to try this with Southern Comfort! It would be similar to a Southern Manhattan (my favorite).
