Sunrise Mimosa is a delightful beverage to pair with weekend brunch made with orange juice, champagne and a splash of grenadine.
I have really been in brunch mode lately. Even for dinner, I have been making the family breakfast foods like Pancakes with Strawberry Sauce or Chocolate Waffles with scrambled eggs. Brunch foods are just delicious and so are the brunch cocktails. Mimosas seem to be one of those alcoholic beverages you don’t feel guilty drinking before noon on the weekends. It is half orange juice after all!
Sunrise Mimosa
Sunrise Mimosa has a bubbly, crisp taste with a nice balance from the citrus orange juice. Grenadine adds just a little note of tartness and is the ingredient that gives this cocktail that wonderful graduated coloring going from red to orange reminiscent of a beautiful sunrise.
Champagne
The word champagne has become an umbrella term when speaking about sparkling wine but a true champagne comes from a particular region in France. Champagne is sparkling wine but not all sparkling wines are champagne to sum it up. So, what type of champagne is best for a mimosa? This depends on your personal taste but shy away from anything really sweet and reach for a dry sparkling wine bottle. Your bottle does not have to say champagne. You can also use a Prosecco for example. I go with the cheapest on the shelf which was Andre Extra Dry today.
Ombré
To achieve the ombré from red to yellow, you need to assemble this cocktail a particular way. First, pour some orange juice into the glass about halfway. Then top off with champagne. Lastly, add the grenadine. Use a spoon to butt up to the top edge of your glass and slowly pour the grenadine over the spoon to drizzle down the side. The grenadine will settle in at the bottom and you are left with a sunrise inspired drink.

Enjoy Bella.
These look so yummy and pretty! What would be a good option to sub for the champagne if you wanted an alcohol-free version? Maybe a sparkling water or a mild tasting clear soda?
